Zone Exploration

Utrecht Cereol site:

In the beginning the Zone Exploration was implemented at one particular site, which was Utrecht Cereol factory. Cereol is a typical urban exploration site, featuring several industrial structures and closed for the past 15 years. It is the last site of this type in Utrecht center, situated in Oog in Al next to the local park.

Utrecht site was unique in terms of situation (close to the city center) and structure - there were several industrial buildings as well as space to raise new structures.

Unfortunately, the remaints of Cereol factory were recently demolished. A small cluster of housing will be raised on the site, the project attempts to preserve one of the older factory buildings as a local museum.

Although this site features numerous pictures and referencies to Cereol site, at this stage it is impossible to do anything and Utrecht probably lost the opportunity to host the Zone Exploration complex.

The first building at Utrecht Cereol appeared in the beginning of the XX century. The factory gradually developed to a site with several structures added during the years. The majority of the buildings were raised between 1930-1950. These were typical brick buildings up to 8 floors high.
As any object of this type, Cereol introduced different types of disturbances to the public, s.a. smoke, noise etc. In the beginning of the 90's the citizens of Oog in Al succeeded to close the factory, and it remained untouched for 15 years. Several small buildings adjustent to the borders hosted different functions, s.a. local cultural center, storages and garages. In Spring 2008 the site was entirely cleaned.

We've put some pictures of the Cereol site below, enjoy!
